FEB 25-26: The Rise of Japan & Unit 6 Review and Timeline

On Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th, February we finished Unit 6 material by talking about Japan. We then spent the remainder of the time doing a brief review and timeline. If you were absent, you will need to do the following:

ALL CLASSES:
1) Be sure your homework from last time is complete.

2) If you are in 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th periods only! Please download the following assignment and use your text to complete it:

SPECIAL POST: Presentation Make Up

If you were a student who missed the student presentations on Western imperialism, here are all nine countries represented. You will need to complete at least six of them by going through the presentation and using your own paper to take at least 12 substantial and significant facts about each country.

Remember you only need to do six of the nine. You choose what is most interesting to you.

FEB 24-25: The Decline and Fall of the Ottoman Empire

On Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th, February we looked at the Ottoman Empire. If you were not here, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

ALL CLASSES:

1) Make sure your homework from last time is complete.

2) Download the following notes and use the presentation to fill them out:

3) Take a blank piece of paper and title it, Video Notes: Decline of the Ottoman Empire. Watch the following video and take at least 20 notes on things that will help you remember the problems facing the Ottoman Empire, how they attempted to reform, and what role the Europeans had in the decline.
You will fast forward the video about an hour and begin watching at the 1:01:00 mark until the end of the video.

4) On the back of those notes paper, construct a Venn Diagram and compare the Qing Dynasty's decline to the Ottoman decline. Also, write a brief response as to whether there are warning signs that we are in decline based on what you have now learned.

FEB 20-21: Decline and Fall of the Qing Empire

On Thursday 20th and Friday 21st, February we looked at the decline and fall of the Qing Dynasty in China. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

AP WORLD HISTORY:
1) If you did not take your test from last time, you NEED to come in and get that done by Friday.
2) Make sure your homework from last time is complete, Chapter 19 Reading Guide #1.
3) As a way to make a connection to what was happening we had a brief discussion on drug abuse in the United States today. We answered a few question and then connected that to the Opium War in China during the 1800s. You can watch the following video and consider the following questions, by writing your answers on a separate piece of paper.

- What is a drug?
- Why do people get involved with drug's?
- Do you think Kati is happy and wants this life for herself? In no, why does she do it?
- Is there something wrong with Kati? Is she an evil person or is something else going on?
- What might happen if a nation had thousands or even millions of people addicted to drugs?

FEB 18-19: Project Presentations

On Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th, Feb we spent the day looking at students' presentations. If you were absent you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

ALL STUDENTS:
1) Download the following notes, if you have not already done so, and use my presentation to fill them in. We already actually filled in Concept #1 from last time.

FEB 13-14: Project Wrap Up

On Thursday 13th and Friday 14th, February we spent a brief part discussing European imperialism and took notes. We then spent the remainder of the day working on the project. If you were absent, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:

ALL CLASSES:
1) Download the following notes and use the presentation to fill in the notes for Key Concepts 1 & 2.

2) For the research/project portion there is nothing to make up per se except you will now likely need to do more at home for your project. If you need the instructions or research packet, please see the post previous from two times before and you can download it there.

IMPORTANT! The project (slide show & report) for B DAY classes (World History 10) is due by midnight Monday 17th, February. For A DAY classes (AP World History) it is due by midnight Tuesday 18th, February.

If you turn in anything or edit anything after these deadlines, your project will be considered late and you will be docked 15% from the overall project grade. I am depending on you to be ready and to present, so this project is an exception to our normal late policy!!!

JAN 30-31: Correction Day

On Thursday 30th and Friday 31st, January I returned and we spent the days correcting out Unit 5 portfolios and tests. If you were absent these days, you will need to do the following to make up what you missed:
