Please read all announcements and foll all instructions carefully:

SOME ANNOUNCEMENTS:

- First, I want to say how much I am impressed with the those of you have completed your work and are keeping up with what I am expecting. These are unusual and difficult times and your work is noticed and appreciated. Also, I am dependent on your honesty through this crisis and this is one of those moments that reveals our moral character as individuals and as a community. Thank you to those who are being honest, because it will be you who pull us through this.

- Second, please do NOT ignore, put off, or avoid any issues, concerns, or problems you may be having with World History. There is absolutely nothing that we can not resolve, if you talk to me!

- Third, next week is Spring Break. I am not expecting you to do ANYTHING for this class during the break. Of course, you are free to do so, if you choose. However, beginning Saturday 4th through Sunday 12th I will NOT be available nor will I be answering emails. I will resume work on Monday 13th, April. - If you have not done PROGRESS CHECK #1 from the last post, do so ASAP! If you are new to the class, you do not need to do this.

- If you are new to our class, you will need to download what we call a Portfolio Checklist, the link is just below. Put your name on it and ignore #s 1-8 and just begin with #9 (see below) For those of you who are not new, you should have one already and filled out 1-8. Please see previous posts, if you are missing anything.
Link to Portfolio Checklist

- On your portfolio checklist, please add the following:
9) Apr 2     Reading Guide 29.1 - Nationalism in the Middle East

- To begin our look at the next part of our unit, we need to briefly recap some things from the Ottoman Empire, but there is a lot of new info here as well. Print or copy into your Google Drive the following assignment and have it completed by next class (Monday 14th, April). I would recommend knocking it out by this Friday before break.
World History 10: Reading Guide 29.1 - Nationalism in the Middle East

- Thank you. The rest of this post is for AP.

AP Classes ONLY! (3rd & 4th) Please do the following to complete class for Wednesday 1st, April:

- If you have not already sent me verification for the portfolio work (not review work) you have done since the school dismissal, you need to do that ASAP! This work is a required part of your 4Q grade.

- For our review practice essays I am pairing you up with another person. Most of you will be in a 3rd/4th period partnership. Please check the list below and note that blue is 3rd period and red is 4th period. Notice the email address and send your partner an email making sure you are in contact with each other. I am only allowed to share school issued emails, so if you prefer another email, you will have to work that out with your partner.
Class Partners and Emails

- For our first practice essay, we are going to revisit the Compare/Contrast essay. Comparing and contrasting is a critical thinking skill. Please create a new Google Doc and use the following rubric to write your essay. You should challenge yourself and write all that you can without using notes or outside help. If you get stuck, you may reference your work or review materials; however, remember that on the test you will NOT be able to do so.
Prompt and Rubric for Comparative Essay

IMPORTANT: Include your name and period in the document name and at the top of the document itself. Do NOT include other headings or information as they are not necessary. You need a minimum of 2 full pages of writing, double spaced, but no more than 3 pages.

- When finished you will share your essay with your partner and he or she will do the same. I would recommend that you do NOT give each other editing rights. Simply copy each other's essays into your drives and edit from there like you do with the documents I share. Next, using the rubric, grade your partner's essay thoroughly and be honest with them. Remember, since it is a Google Doc you have copied you can highlight stuff, edit, etc., etc. When finished, share your grading and suggestions with them.

- Have this done by Friday 3rd, April so we can enjoy Spring Break without work!

- You will be sharing these essays with me as well, but not yet. On Friday 3rd April I will give you further instruction on how I want you to verify participation in the Unit 1 Review and this practice essay writing.

- As always, I am here if you need help or have questions of any kind. Do not hesitate to send me an email. If you have concerns with your partner, let me know and we will work it out

Thank you.

Videos: Detailed Review For Unit 1 Topics  (Notice that on the right hand side of the screen, once you open this video, there is a playlist of several videos associated with Unit 1. Please take the time to check them all out.)

Thank you.

Wednesday 25th & Thursday 26th, March: (WH10) Life in the Cold War & (AP) Review Introduction

On Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th, March I am going to ask you to please carefully read all announcements. WH10 students will continue their look at the Cold War. AP students will begin reviewing for their final exam.

 SOME ANNOUNCEMENTS:

First, at this point most announcements are repeats. If you have not been doing so, you need to read the announcements at the beginning of EACH post. Everything is there and it is simple to follow. If you have concerns/questions, do not wait, email me and I will help you.

Second, all late / makeup work and test corrections for 3rd QUARTER are due tomorrow  Thursday 26th, March at 3pm! The work for 3rd QUARTER was everything up to and including the Unit 6 Test. Nothing we have done since the school dismissal will affect your 3rd Quarter grade.

Third, everything you have worked on since the school closure will go on 4th QUARTER's grade. That will include everything on the portfolio checklist (listed below).  You will not turn in anything from that portfolio until I ask for it; however, you should be keeping it together either physically or electronically.

WH10 Classes ONLY! (5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th periods) Please do the following to complete class for Thursday 26th, March:

- Update your portfolio checklist as follows (If you need items #1-7, please check the previous posts):
8) Mar 26     Reading Guide 33.1 - Life During the Cold War

- Remember, you are NOT turning anything in yet. You are keeping it in a portfolio. You have two options and may do whichever one is easiest for you. You can copy the files I provide links for into your Google Drive and keep everything electronically OR you can print it out and have physical copies of the work. Whichever way you choose, you will have to prove that you have been doing the work and will turn these things in at a later date. Be diligent!

- Download the following book work and complete it for Wednesday 25th, March.
World History 10: Reading Guide 33.1 - Life During the Cold War: Europe and N. America

- This coming Monday 30th, March we will be doing our first check/quiz on the work you have done since the closure. Please make sure all items, (including what you got today) are completed in your portfolio. This is just a check and you will be able to use the work to complete it.

The rest of this post is for AP only. Thank you!

AP Classes ONLY! (3rd & 4th) Please make note of the following updates:

Important: Information may change. Instead of making multiple posts each day, I will simply edit/update this post as needed. Please check these posts for edits a couple times a day (morning & evening) to make sure you are getting what you need.

- First, what a time to take AP! Let your stress go and do NOT cancel your tests. Think about it, a 3 1/2 hour test reduced to 45 minutes. Wow!! What an opportunity. You are going to pass this test, if you do what I ask you to.

- Second, thank you for your responses. However, I did not hear from everyone, if you have not sent me an email from your preferred email do that NOW!!

- Third, based on you responses we will do the following:
1) Begin reviewing for the AP exam.
2) Either by taking pictures of your work and sending them to me OR by sharing your Google Docs of the work, you need to send me verification of completion for the following five items:
Mar13/16    Notes 7.2 - From WWI to WWII
Mar13/16    HW: Reading Guides 20.2 and 20.3
Mar 17/18   Notes 7.3 - Origins and Course of WWII
Mar 17/18   HW: Reading Guide 21.1

- Fourth, please complete the following introductory review by filling in notes using the following presentation. You are free to review in the way that seems best for you and your style; however, research shows that writing stuff down improves memory.
Notes: AP Review Introduction
Presentation: AP Review Introduction

- Fifth, the previous review is an introduction, but still important so do it!. Starting Monday 30th, March we will begin formal intensive reviews for each unit complete with vocabulary, videos, former presentations, practice writings, and review notes.

(For those interested: There will be live lectures for the information in Unit 8, that can be found at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoGgviqq4845dmFXqxdQ3LBR2fxLgv0GM
Remember, you will not be tested on Unit 8 information. These are just for those who wish to learn more.)

Thank you!

Monday 23rd & Tuesday 24th, March: (AP) Class Update & (WH10) Cold War Conflicts

On Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th, March I am going to ask you to please carefully read all announcements. AP students will likely begin reviewing for their final exam; WH10 students will continue their look at the Cold War.

SOME ANNOUNCEMENTS:

First, please make sure you are reading the right expectations. AP is for 3rd & 4th periods. WH10 is for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th periods.

Third, please do not ignore or blow off my expectations and then expect to fix things after the fact. If you have ANY problems, concerns, frustrations, email me before the deadline and we will take care of it. I understand these are unusual times, but if we communicate there is nothing that can't be resolved.

Fourth, everything you have worked on since the school closure will go on 4th QUARTER's grade. That will include everything on the portfolio checklist (listed below).  You will not turn in anything from that portfolio until I ask for it; however, you should be keeping it together either physically or electronically.

Whichever way you choose, you will have to prove that you have been doing the work and will turn these things in at a later date. Be diligent!

- Download the following book work and complete it by Wednesday 25th, March.
World History 10: Reading Guide 31.3 -Cold War Conflicts

- This coming Monday 30th, March we will be doing our first check/quiz on the work you have done since the closure. Please make sure all items, (including what you get this Wednesday) are completed in your portfolio. This is just a check and you will be able to use the work to complete it.

- Thank you, the rest of this post is for AP students only.

AP Classes ONLY! (3rd & 4th) Please make note of the following updates:

- Important: All of this information is to the best of my knowledge and what I am getting right now. Please be aware that the situation may change. Instead of making multiple posts each day, I will simply edit/update this post as needed and as a result it may change. Please check these posts for edits a couple times a day (morning & evening) to make sure you are getting what you need

- There are some major changes as to how the rest of the year is going to go and how you will be taking your final AP test:
a) The test is now a 45 minute free-response test that will be done online and at home.
b) There will be two test times to choose from (That will be made public on Friday 3rd, April)
c) There will not be a multiple choice section.
d) The test will only cover the information we learned up to the end of Unit 6 (Industrialization & Imperialism). It will NOT cover any of the material from WWI or later.
e) The College Board is putting up free online review courses starting this Wednesday 25th, March (More info to follow).
f) Based on your responses to the questions below, we will either do a quick finishing of the course or we will begin reviewing and practicing more essay writing.

- I need ALL AP students to do the following ASAP:
1) Send me an email from your school assigned email (preferred) or the email you have been using since the closure. This email will be shared with the class for review purposes, so use the school issued one if you can.
2) Put your name and AP REVIEW OPTIONS in the title.
3) Answer the following questions in the email:

- Do you know how to access AP classroom? It can be found HERE. I know we all signed up for it, but have not used it. I am just asking do you know how to get to AP classroom.
- Do you want to finish the course, knowing that what we cover now will not be tested, or do you prefer beginning the review?
- I would like to give you credit for the work you did since the closure. What would be the fairest and honest way to grade the work you have done since the closure? (Items #1-4 on your portfolio. You can check that HERE)

- Unless something changes, I am not anticipating making a new post until Wednesday for AP. That will give me time to gather your responses and decide how to proceed.

Thank you.
